An interesting result in the Barnsley Central by election saw the Liberal Democrats slump from second place to sixth, and lose their deposit in the process.
This is exactly what Nick Clegg is afraid of at the next General Election, and is the reaon why he is so keen to introduce the new voting system at the referrendum in May.
The Liberals are the only party that are certain to benefit from the change to the Alternative Vote system.
And while the ‘Yes’ campaign, which is pushing for the change, claims to be a grassroots, apolitical organisation, it is staffed from top to bottom with Liberal Democrats. Five out of six members of the Yes Campaign’s steering committee have worked for or explicitly supported the Liberal Democrat party, and their leading regional and national coordinators are mostly Lib Dem activists and former candidates.
Their leaflets have even asked supporters to make donations out to the Liberal Democrat party.
Don’t let the Liberals off the hook. Don’t let them rig the electoral system. Don’t vote for AV.
