It is great to see that Education Secretary Michael Gove has been forced to scrap plans to create a two-tier education system, which would have split children into winners and losers at 16, and abolished lessons in the arts completely.
My favourite quote came from my favourite MP, constituency superhero, Karen Buck.
On Mr Gove’s plans to ‘transform’ English lessons by turning them into dull rote-learning, she said:
It is fantastic that Mr Gove has acknowledged that English as a subject needs to move into a different century.
Unfortunately for all concerned, he has chosen the 19th rather than the 21st.
