Local Elections are on May 4th closely followed by a General Election on June 8th.
You’re registered to vote, but you’re snowed under! Maybe juggling work and family commitments, but convinced you have to do something to help get rid of the Tories!
Don’t worry! You are not alone!
Here are five simple ways that busy people can help give the Tories the boot.
1. Join the Labour Party
Joining Labour has three huge benefits.
First, even if you don’t have time to campaign, joining the Party means you’re hiring the professionals to do it on your behalf, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Second, our record membership figures send out a message as powerful as any we can write on a leaflet.
Third, your local branch will keep you up to date with all kinds of events in your area, political and social. You can meet other people who are also trying to make a difference.
2. Write to Your Local Paper
Writing to the local paper is a quick and easy way to let everyone in your area know how disgraceful the Tories are.
You write it, and someone else delivers it – it’s a busy campaigner’s dream!
Local paper editors want to print lots of short letters (250 words or less), so something brief and snappy is usually better than a long letter full of statistics.
Mark it ‘For Publication’, and find the email address from the newspaper’s website. See here for some tips on what the papers are looking for.
3. Put up a Poster or Sign
At election time, putting a poster in your window or a sign in your garden is a great way for busy people to campaign. It keeps working day and night, whether you are in or out, and it’s easy and hassle-free.
Non-members have to buy posters, but members get them free!
If garden signs are used in your area, the local party can take care of putting one up during the election, and taking it away afterwards. Let them know if you have a garden facing onto the street, and they will do the rest.
4. Follow Labour on Social Media
If you have social media accounts, it only takes a few moments to make sure you are following the Labour Party’s official feeds and pages.
You can easily keep up to date with the campaigns, and show your friends that you’re part of the team that’s working to get rid of the Tories.

5. Tell Your Friends
Let your friends know what the Tories are up to, and how you feel about it. It’s easy to do, and one of the most powerful ways to campaign.
Tell them what you’re doing about it and why.
You never know – they may even want to help!
